在全美熱門歌唱選秀節目「美國偶像」第5季(*2006年)中拿到總排名第3名的艾略特。亞明(Elliott Yamin)擁有一副能夠穿透流行與R&B歌曲的唱腔，就連該節目的毒舌評審賽門(Simon Cowell)都稱讚他是該節目前5季的所有參賽者中最棒的男歌手。1978年7月20號出生於洛杉磯的他，在青春歲月經歷了讓人難以想像的艱困打擊，13歲時，醫生診斷他的右耳失去了百分之90的聽力，16歲時，他罹患了第一型糖尿病。面對這樣的人生，艾略特不但沒有被擊垮，反而從醫療的過程中感受到糖尿病對世人的傷害，投身關懷糖尿病病患的慈善活動。打從17歲開始，艾略特就不斷的在打工，他估計自己大概做過近50種工作，但是卻從來沒想到他的歌唱才華才是他天生注定要走的路。特別當艾略特亞明在「美國偶像」節目中持續晉級時，製作單位安排了靈魂樂傳奇巨星史提夫汪達(Stevie Wonder)擔任歌唱教練嘉賓，史提夫在與艾略特進行教唱時，對艾略特說：「我認為你一定要投身歌唱事業。」艾略特就是在聽過史提夫這番讚美之詞之後，深受震撼與感動，更加堅定了追逐歌唱夢想的決心。
